What is Self-Awareness?
"Self-Awareness is defined by "the abilities to understand one’s own emotions, thoughts, and values and how they influence behavior across contexts. This includes capacities to recognize one's strengths and limitations with a well-grounded sense of confidence and purpose".

A child with a good understanding of his/her emotions can manage better the behaviors and choices in school and life.

Give effective compliments with praises that are specific and emphases the efforts, not the results. It will build up the self-esteem and self-confidence of your child.

Help your child to name his/her feelings. Using statements like: “I fell___because ___".

Help your child to recognize what triggers his/her strong emotions. Talk about feelings.

All of us have emotions. Some good, and some not so good. Children need to know that is OK to feel what they are feeling. Later, they will learn how to handle strong feelings.
